What You Need to Know...

  • Not everyone has $800 or more to spend. This is a good place to start.
  • Most common sizes for adults using this type of kite are a 4m and 6m.
  • These kites are 3 or 4 line fixed bridal kites that are controlled with a control bar.
  • Kites come compete and ready to fly.  No harness or extra gear is required.
  • The power and pull of the kite is all on your arms.
  • These kites are simple and easy to set up and fly.
  • These kites are NOT  depower/sheetable kites.

What to Expect...

In moderate winds (12 to 18mph), on a hard packed surface lighter riders and even heavier riders can get get a decent pull on a pair of skies or snowboard.   However, with these kites, you will be under-powered to fully engage in the sport in light to moderate winds.  The stronger the winds, the stronger the pull.

Your body weight will impact your ride but not as much as the wind speed and the surface conditions. We have a number of customers weighing 120 to 170lbs who continue to use their 4 or 5m kites year after year.

What You Need to Know...

  • These kites are specifically designed for learning. with the exception of the Peak. The Peak is the real deal, yet friendly enough to learn with.
  • They are true depower, sheetable kites.
  • They require the purchase of a harness and maybe a bar and lines.
  • There is very little to no pull on your arms.
  • The bar is dedicated to navigation & increasing or decreasing power.
  • You are learning to rig and fly every aspect of a full size kite.
  • Sheetable kites have a different action for control and steering. There is a benefit of learning this from the start.

What to Expect...

The beginner / teaching kite is not for everyone, but for the right person or family it can be an amazing tool. These kites are specifically designed for beginners, and teaching with the full experience of a sheetable depower kite. They are designed for durability, superior safety, quick depower, simplicity and stable flying behavior.

There are a variety of sizes to match the proper wind speed and weight of the rider. Younger and lighter riders can fully engage in the sport with smaller kites.  Average to heavier weight adults can select larger sizes based on their skillset, weight, and wind conditions. As their skills increase, they can harness higher winds and fully engage and have a quality experience with a 6-8m kite.

These kites are a nice foundation for your quiver. They can always be used in higher winds or for teaching a friend or family member the sport.

Depending on your interest, the Flysurfer Viron is one of the most versatile for learning on snow, water, and land.  The Viron has many features that places it at the top of the list for a beginner kite.  It is one of the easiest kites to learn with.

What You Need to Know...

  • This category is the real deal.  We often refer to them as  Freeride or "Do all" kites.
  • All three of these kites operate with a universal bar.  This is awesome because the same bar can be used to fly different brands, sizes, and foil or inflatable kites. Wow!
  • These snowkites are going to have better low end power, less lift, quicker depower, and a little slower action.
  • An advanced or entry level rider will be just as thrilled cruising or riding backcountry.
  • Kites in this category typically fly with a universal 4-line depower control bar (or 5-line).
  • These kites are user friendly and nice to those new to the sport.
  • This is a kite that you will always have a use for.

What to Expect...

Regardless if you are an advanced rider or an entry level kiter ready to master the sport, these kites are excellent for cruising, climbing hills, or mountains and are more stable in gusty winds.

Freeride kites are excellent for anyone who wants to fully engage in learning and advancing in one of the most fun and fastest growing winter sports.

These kites would not be good for those who want to maximize big air freestyle jumps or for those speed junkies who are out to win a race.
