Mechanical Wind Meter. 

One thing nice about this wind meter is how reliable it is.  No batteries.  Just point into the wind and you have a reading of the wind speed in MPH.  If you are new to kiteboarding a wind meter is a great tool for two reasons.   First,  You have an accurate reading right were you are at and you can test for changing conditions.  Two if you are new to wind sports you will begin teaching your self to accurately determine wind conditions. 

Determining wind conditions is very important to the sport of kiteboarding, snow kiting, and land kiting.
